Struggling with History? Here is how you can ace your history exam.

If you feel history is a too dull subject to study if you think there are no good reasons to remember so many different dates and so many different battle names. If you feel “Let bygone, be bygone” for history, if you believe that living in the year 2021 is even better than learning history, let me tell you that you are not an exception. Most of the students feel and think the same about history. Also one of the greatest scientists of all time — Albert Einstein believed that the ability to know how to get information is far more important than using the mind as a garage for facts and that the mental skills should be used to create history rather than using it merely on recording history made by others. He never believed in memorizing things, and he was not good at it, too. But today, our education system demands us to learn stuff to test our memorizing capacity. And I feel that it’s not a bad thing as far as our learning capacity is concerned. The better you are at remembering things, the sharper your mind becomes.

I know, many of you have History-phobia probably because you are not good at remembering names and dates. Do not worry boarding schools in Dehradun provide you some tips to overcome your shortcomings and to ace your history exam. By the end of this article, you will feel that it isn’t too tough to learn history.

Firstly, nothing in this world is possible until and unless you believe in it. So, you have to believe in yourself and your abilities. Remember, history is complicated because we think it is. Keep on reminding yourself that you are made to do great things. Secondly, to learn dates and battle names, all you need is to link the dates, years, and battles with one another. Arrange the dates and battle names in the order of occurrence. Please make a list of the same, followed by who won the battle (against whom is not much important, it can be neglected) and where it was fought. Try to keep things as simple as possible. If you don’t remember the exact date, then mention the month and the year, or just the year. You may get full marks for the answer, but if you put wrong details, your marks would be deducted, undoubtedly. So, always mention the exact date only when you are more than sure about it. For example- If you don’t remember the time of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, say that the Jallianwala Bagh massacre happened in April 1919, when General Dyer ordered his men to block the only narrow entry/exit gate and to fire at the people blindly gathered at Jallianwala Bagh.

Answering a history question is very simple. You don’t need to mock up every small detail and panic about the same if you don’t remember them during the examination. All you need to do is write whatever details you remember about the same. Give the right information in the answer. Don’t exaggerate things. In an attempt to make your answer look extra-fancy and extraordinary, never try to write the things you are not sure about.

Follow the steps, I have mentioned here, and I assure you that you will very soon start to like history. Do remember to make the list of dates, battle names, and who won the battles. Taking these small steps towards learning history will surely fetch you good marks, and someday, you will ace your history examination.

Happy Learning!
