Cricket records that are hard to crack anytime soon
Cricket- a global game is loved by one and all. It is equally a mental pleasure (the calculation of the scoreboard!) as it is a sight to watch. Not all cricket fans are math lovers, but all of them keep a score for a sudden argument. Is it having tea? The topics you most likely would talk about are cricket, politics, other sports or personalities (both famous and maybe not so famous).
Being a girl school Ecole Globale is no less in sports. Boarding School is generally more into sports and physical activities for better health of students. In terms of cricket the time runs faster than a middle stump flying in the air so here are some great achievements we are talking about that seem hard to crack anytime soon (say 5 to 10 years from now perhaps or not)-
1. Sir Donald Bradman’s Record Test average: 99.94
Of a career that spanned more than twenty Test matches, the outstanding figure of 99.94 is still unbroken. Sir Donald Bradman missed finishing a career on or above 100 due to a score of 0 in his final Test match.
2. 952/6 by Sri Lanka- the highest score in a Test cricket
Twenty-two years ago Sri Lanka scored a magnificent 952/6 against India and is still the highest score in Test history. Sanath Jayasuriya (340) and Roshan Mahanama (225)- the partnership that recorded the team’s name in history.
3. 624: Test cricket’s gigantic partnership
In 2006 Kumar Sangakkara (287) and Mahela Jayawardene (374), Sri Lanka’s two finest players, combined and set a world record of 624-run.
Why this record seems unbreakable: the pitches are now bowler-friendly. With T20 gaining more popularity, fewer batsmen have the patience, technique, and mindset to put the bowlers to the ground.
4. The two highest scores: 400* and 501* by Brian Lara
Brian Lara still holds the record of the highest individual Test score 400 in 2004 and 501 in 1994. Lara has set some great achievements for the younger generations to be inspired to do better in their game or time.
5. Sachin Tendulkar the God of 200 test Matches
Not that this record is unbreakable, but it is yet unbroken, and it will take another couple of years to break it. Though there are many candidates for this title.
Who are the contenders who are eligible to break this record: Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, have played 68 and 81 Tests respectively. To break this record, these or even other players will have to play for 10 years and that too uninterrupted.
6. Most test runs: 15,921 by none other than Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar in his lustrous 24-year international career has produced some colossal achievements. His huge feat of 15,921 (also add his 51 centuries) runs will take like another era to get beaten. Of the current good performing players, the four best performings are- Smith, Kohli, Root, and Williamson will have to make some superhuman efforts to reach/ break this record.
7. Most balls faced in a Test career: 31,258
Rahul Dravid aka The Wall of the then Indian team faced an incredible 31,258 balls, that would make 109 balls per innings, in his Test career. Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis all played more Tests than Dravid, but none of them could reach this mark of facing 30000 deliveries.
8. Mark Boucher’s 532 catches
Mark Boucher (South Africa) was an outstanding wicket-keeper. His 532 catches are still the highest in Test cricket.
9. Muttiah Muralitharan’s 800 Test wickets
Muttiah Muralitharan, Sri Lanka’s spin-wizard took incredible 800 wickets in his magnificent 133-Test career.
10. Fastest 10,000 One Day International runs
However, Virat Kohli continues to achieve great things in ODI cricket. First, he is on track to beat Tendulkar’s record of 49 hundred. Second, he has to chase 6,906 runs (as of October 2019) to reach Tendulkar’s 18,426 runs, which is quite possible given his outstanding performance.
